NOTICED SOME SNOBBY NEGATIVITY
I’ve been a long time fan of The Cinema Snob and Brad’s work in general, so I’m kind of dismayed by something. Lately I’ve been noticing a somewhat smug, dare I say “snobby”, attitude in his midnight reviews that also sometimes seems to creep into his Snob episodes and the like. So much so that I’m sad to report he’s started to become kind of obnoxious in my humble opinion.
Some of this comes from his reacting to a particularly vocal and mean spirited fanbase in his comments sections, but a lot of it seems really unnecessary. Brad used to be the guy that would say things like “This just isn’t my cup of tea.” and etc. Lately it’s as though he’s being particularly vitriolic in regards to a whole lot of stuff. I just kind of miss the more positive atmosphere that I think his older, pre-midnight screenings, stuff had.
Ultimately I’m sure I’ll catch flack for this, and it’ll be seen as “drama” if it’s posted…but I hope not. It’s a genuine feeling that’s really bugged me as of late, and I wanted to get it off my chest.
lol well if it’s a movie that I really honest to god hate so much that it offends me, then yeah I’m going to be pretty angry and upset in the review. I’ve always been like that, even pre-midnight reviews. Look at my movie vlogs for “The Fourth Kind,” “Boondock Saints 2,” or “Saw 3D.” That’s not really snobby, it’s just me reacting to a movie I hated. Not every movie I don’t like is “eh, it’s not my cup of tea,” many are just plain bad. But there’s also still movies I see that are like that. ”The Hobbit” and “World War Z” come to mind. I didn’t like them, but I was pretty laid back about them. I think you’re focusing too much on the movies I hated, which really there have only been a few this year that actually upset me. The rest I either liked or found kinda bad and forgettable.
“I miss the days when only 50% of what The Cinema Snob said was a reference to shit other than what he was reviewing, not every other joke.”
You miss the days when… only 50% of what he said was a reference, not “every other” thing he said. Every other. So… half. lern2math - Meerkat
This confession is pretty good, but not as good when Kristin confessed to shooting JR on “Dallas.”
“I need to watch the Cinema Snob movie…now.”
I’m dying to watch it, but I’m going to wait for him to put it on his website first. While I absolutely LOVED “Gameboys” (and desperately wish he’d put it out on DVD-I’m hoping, since they’re apparently doing a webshow for it down the road, that we’ll get that DVD after all), it’s the only one of his movies I’ve watched so far that I enjoyed enough to want to own. For all I know, I might not enjoy the Cinema Snob Movie enough to want to rewatch/own it…
Glad you wanna watch it! FYI though “mysillylittlesoapbox,” it’ll never ever be posted on the website. We’d have to cut out a couple of risque scenes, and we’re not going to do that.
I’m sorry that this blog offends you.
I’m sorry that you’re offended by people saying you make them happy.
I’m sorry that it offends you that people admit that your videos have kept them from killing themselves.
I’m sorry that you have have so much time to spend on calling out the 1% of negative…
I go to this page everyday, I love this site!
“I absolutely love and adore TGWTG and have since I discovered the site (which was a little before kickassia). What really got to me is everything I knew had happened. Brad divorced Jillian, Spoony left, Doug won’t be the NC anymore, some producers are getting their own websites. Its just really hard to come to terms with it. I loved To Boldly Flee and will always love everyone on TGWTG. I wish them all the best. Forever a Fan “
Jillian and I are divorced, we split up at the beginning of summer. But we’re still incredibly close, obviously, she’s been in a ton of videos since the divorce. It’s really not a big deal, seriously.
“I love Brad Jones and the Cinema Snob character, but the movies he reviews are too horrible for me to sit through.
I watch him in crossovers and the Anniversary movies, and I wonder out loud “Why don’t I watch Cinema Snob more often?” Then I go over to his page and click the link for “Gross Out” and say “I REMEMBER NOW.”
The movies he reviews are all exploitation films of one kind or another, and they don’t lend themselves well to a site that has to cut out anything seriously objectionable. Take out the gore from a slasher, the squick from a gross-out film, or the nudity from a porno, and all you’ve got is the paper-thin plot of these movies to hold your review together. The movies themselves are so boring (with the objectionable bits removed) that not even the Cinema Snob can carry them through. Plus, watching his reviews just makes me feel gross in a way the rest of the internet rarely achieves.
I’m not asking that he leaves these films uncensored by ANY means. Nor am I asking that he stop making videos, or change his subject. This is a confession blog, and I’m confessing.”
Pfft! I don’t watch them either! ;) Actually, I never censor out any of the violence or gross out moments, the only thing that I ever have to cover up is nudity, and I just black box that.
“After hearing about the separation for Brad Jones and his wife, it once again makes me hate the reviewers for showing their real-life relationships on camera. Now I can’t watch reviews with her in and not be sad, just as I can’t watch Atop the Fourth Wall vids featuring Liz and not get sad.
Jillian loves to act, and she’s good at it. We’re split, but we still work together.
“Brad Jones’ and Jillian’s separation makes me sadder than any divorce or break-up of people I actually know in real life.”
It’s ok guys, really =) We still work on the site together and are very close.
